ROGER FEDERER: THE ONE AND ONLY

ROGER FEDERER: THE ONE AND ONLY

Tenis is a sport known by few people throughout the world, and not played by many. So why does it get any players at all and such an economic success for their players? Roger Federer is a way of explaining this issue.

Federer, a player born in Switzerland, has been known for his incredible career, full of championships and records of all kind. I can tell with security that he’s the reason I keep playing the sport since I was 8 years old. By that time I knew nothing about him, but since I met his playing  kind of got in love with it.

His whole personality is worth of remembering along with his playing skills. Since the first time he won a Grand Slam Championship (the greatest accomplishment in the tennis world) people knew he was up to a brilliant future. Everyone was right, nowadays he can presume 17 Grand Slam Titles (a world record) and uncountable Masters Tournaments won. The only big tournament he’s missing is the Olympic Golden Medal, one he’lo try to achieve this next summer in Rio, Brazil.

He’s got different rivalries throughout his career with the best players of the world, and none of them can be compared with him. His first big rivalry could be considered the one with Pete Sampras, an American player. After him, with Rafael Nadal, the one who got him lots of troubles because of the Roland Garros, the only Grand Slam played in clay, Federer’s most hated surface. Actually, he’s only won one Roland Garros, contrary to the 7 Wimbledon’s he has achieved. Finally, if we talk about the best players in the world we can’t get rid of Novak Djokovic, the one that in my opinion, is the only one capable of winning as much as Federer has, because he’s the Most complicated rival to him in the present. Not for nothing he’s been the number 1 player in the world for some years in a row.

I think we, the tennis lovers, are a blessed generation, because we get to see these titans fight in a way never seen before.

It’s arguable whether he’s the best player around the globe and throughout history, but something undeniable is that he’s an idol to many young players, who try to follow his steps to greatness. And doing it at the age of 34 without a problem is something plausible for any person.
