Lovecraft expository essay (Luis)

H.P. Lovecraft is an iconic writer. He is recognized as the creator of cosmic horror. However it is believed he wasn’t the creator of it. There were found some other authors that before him wrote in this style. So this theory says that he didn’t create it that he was just a part of it. He changed the way this earlier writers did cosmic horror. He made it creepier and way sadder. He made the human being be one insignificant piece of sh*** in his works. Basically he made us useless. The funniest thing is that this was the most important legacy he left through within his works.

Even though his peculiar way to write humans still impresses it is not he only thing he is remembered for. The other big thing he is remembered for is how his style redefined the meaning of the horror genre. Basically his style revolved in creating a super heavy mood that made the reader believe he was in the same crappy situation (because with Lovecraft there are only crappy situations) as the main character of the story. His purpose throughout this was to create fear and a fear so big to make the reader want to sh*** his pants. To make his writing do this he utilized different techniques for example first person narratives to make the reader thin he is the main character and the over description of things with a creepy and scary point of view.

Lovecraft’s impact in today’s society is huge. Beginning he is now considered the father of cosmic horror even though he didn’t created it. He just perfected it. Also his stories keep being referenced and tried to be recreated in modern eras and media. A great example for this in the third dlc (downloadable content) for the videogame called The elder scrolls 5: Skyrim. In this dlc the game tried to recreate Lovecraft’s works in a way that you actually became it’s protagonist. In this dlc the mayor things was the Cthulu monster mission, which was the final boss and was almost as hard as it was scary.

Part of the success of Lovecraft is his unique style. He is also known to be in a close relation with his fans and it is estimated that he wrote hundreds of thousands of letters back to his fans. This made Lovecraft as famous as a rock star because he kept sharing his creepy view of the world with his fans.
